About Ric Sissons
Ric Sissons is the author of 12 cricket books including:
- The Players – A Social History of the Professional Cricketer which won the English Cricket Society’s Jubilee Literary Award;
- Billy Murdoch – Cricketing Colossus (with Richard Cashman) which won the Australian Cricket Society Literary Award; and
- When the Kangaroo met the Eagle – The 1913 Australian tour of Canada and the United States (with Peter Schofield) which won the Australian Cricket Society Literary Award.
Ric was born in England and grew up playing and watching cricket in Derbyshire. He moved to Australia in 1983 to set up Pluto Press Australia, a radical book publisher.
In Sydney, he was also involved in establishing Social Change Media and later Campaign City, both political campaign organisations working for progressive causes and a more equitable future.
Having retired from paid work, Ric divides his time between cricket writing and organic gardening at home or as a volunteer at the Sydney City Farm. Ric has contributed articles to County Cricket Matters (www.countycricketmatters.com) and book reviews to The Cricket Statistician (acscricket.com)
